The Hostage, written by Brendan Behan in the mid-twentieth century, has proved itself to be a touchstone for contemporary theatre. It is a love story embedded in a political thriller, a comic tragedy…a tragic comedy. A young British soldier is taken hostage by the IRA and held in a Dublin brothel. The hullabaloo of the brothel, the singing, dancing and carrying on provides the context for this deeply provocative debate around republicanism, nationalism, and (in the end) the meaning of life itself. The graduating student actors of DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama are proud to present this energetic, thought-provoking play in an ensemble production, showcasing their many talents and skill as actors and theatre practitioners.
