SHORT FILM: Three Friends

Based on a Colm Tóibín story, Three Friends is a tale of death and life cleverly constructed as a diptych. Set in 1990s Ireland, the film opens in a funeral home as FERGUS sits with his mother’s body. Fergus and his siblings attend the funeral, burial, and wake for their mother, grieving and commemorating her life. Fergus returns to Dublin where he celebrates being alive, dancing at an all-night beach rave and indulging a strong sexual attraction to his friend Mick. Fergus ends the film where he began: alone in a room with another person’s body, but this one very much alive and eager.

Three Friends can be found in the collection of stories, Mothers and Sons, by Colm Tóibín.
