I have just completed the Long Form Improvisation 10 week part-time course in the Gaiety School of Acting.
As somebody with very little experience on the stage (apart from playing a sheep in the Christmas play back when I was 5!) the Long Form Improv course pushed me out of my comfort zone.
The course as a whole proved to be a really enjoyable, challenging experience. The class was made up of some really lovely people of all ages with varied levels of experience in drama and performance. The course facilitator Sharon Mannion (who also teaches Stand Up Comedy) was really encouraging and supportive, allowing us to experience long-form improv in a fun way, gradually developing our improvisational abilities week by week.
The course finished up on week 10 with an improv showcase at The Workman’s Club on the quays. The showcase was an excellent way to test out what we had learned in front of a friendly audience, nerve-racking as the idea of getting up on stage was on week one it was not at all as daunting by the end of the course.
I recommend this course to anybody who enjoys Improvisational Drama and wants to experience performing imrpov for themselves! I’m definitively on for doing another course with the Gaiety School next term. I really enjoyed my time there!
