Are you passionate about drama, dance and the performing arts and would like to use your skills to help street children in Kolkata? Now’s your chance with The Hope Foundation’s Performance with a Difference Programme! Due to the phenomenal success of last year’s programme we have decided to run the project again in September 2014.

This week long visit to Kolkata promises participants the experience of a life time and an opportunity to enhance the lives of the children which we work with through the use of drama, dance, music and song.

Participants on Performance with a Difference will visit 6 of HOPE’s Protection Homes and work with children of all ages ranging from 4– 18 years of age.

They will facilitate and assist one another during workshops and will work  together as a group to create a programme suitable for the children and teenagers which they will work with throughout the week.

The aim of the programme is to encourage self development, build confidence and self esteem, teach new skills, enhance creativity and above all have lots of fun! For an application form and information pack please email jayann@hopefoundation.ie

‘Before heading out to Kolkata I did lots of reading, research, watched videos and spoke to volunteers who had been out before.

However, on arrival the prolific adverse poverty was overwhelming. Nothing can prepare you for the widespread deprivation which is on a scale beyond words.

That said, once I met the children in the Hope Protection Homes and witnessed the wonderful work that is being done, I was completely absorbed and found the experience extremely rewarding humbling and quite honestly life changing. I  bonded instantly  with the children,  and saying goodbye to them at the end of the placement was extremely tough.

Volunteering abroad is one of the most formative and rewarding things you can possibly do, and I would encourage anyone who is thinking about it, to do it. I started fundraising again the week after I returned & can’t wait to make a return journey!’
