This is a casting call for “Evacuation” a short student film (part of the Filmbase Digital Filmmaking Course) to be shot between Friday 30th March and Sunday 1st of April 2012 (The shoot will take place over a day and half in Dublin).
This is a no-budget production and, therefore, the role is unpaid. There will be lunch provided on the day. The successful actors will also receive a copy of the film afterwards (in lieu of getting paid).
Rehearsals might be needed so flexibility and above all reliability is essential.
Alice, an older lady, goes about her daily routine putting out food for the birds however there is an impending disaster coming. She, like everyone else has received notice to evacuate her home yet she still remains, baking in her kitchen. She is given the opportunity, by a young neighbour Sean, to leave with the others but does not take it, preferring to stay in her home and wait for whatever is coming. She is happy, having lived a full life to stay with her memories; her life lived, in her home.
ALICE (70’s): – Alice is a soft yet strong widow, living alone who is a good cook and homemaker. She is quiet and contemplative in an “old world” way. Physically she is small as many people of her age are and she eats very little. She is content with her life and is very house proud.
SEAN (16-18) – Sean is a considerate young man who has time for the older folk around him. He is dutiful yet afraid for the future and his immediate survival. He is tall and thin as he cannot get the food intake to match the sustained growth of his young body.
