DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama present

Macbeth, By William Shakespeare

Directed by Mary Moynihan

Produced by Annette Flynn

“It will have blood they say, blood will have blood”

A play of treachery and bloodshed, of violent deeds and haunting remorse that ventures into the darkest places of human experience

Over 400 years after it was first written and performed, William Shakespeare’s tale of ambition, political intrigue, murder and remorse remains as relevant as ever.

Many people are familiar with the tale of the ambitious Scots nobleman who goes on a murderous rampage following a prophecy of power from three mysterious witches only to discover that you should be careful what you wish for. Adapted for a contemporary audience and presented by an ensemble cast of DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama First Year Drama Students from the BA in Drama (Performance), this production highlights the continuing relevance of this masterpiece.

Director Mary Moynihan, Artistic Director and Theatre Consultant for Smashing Times Theatre Company and a full-time lecturer at the Conservatory, offers up a new take on the timeless tale, whilst retaining the compelling qualities that make this story so engaging.

Speaking of the production Mary Moynihan said: “For me, Shakespeare’s characters are compelling, showing humanity in all its virtues and vices. His language is very accessible, when the actors find the rhythm, like a human heartbeat, they make it come alive. It’s often forgotten that Shakespeare was writing for a sophisticated theatre audience drawn from all classes of society at the time. They expected entertainment and to be emotionally engaged. Shakespeare’s Macbeth is an experience not to be missed.’’

Macbeth runs for three nights only, 1st, 2nd and 3rd May at 7.30pm nightly in The Theatre, DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, Rathmines Road Lower, Dublin 6.

Performances: 1st, 2nd, 3rd May, 2012
Times: Nightly 7.30pm
Venue: DIT Theatre, Rathmines Road Lower, Dublin 6
Tickets: €5 at door

We’re holding another day for Mikayla – we’ve cast the younger role, but are still looking for the 11-12-year-old who can be mixed race Irish/Chinese, an Irish girl who might be able to pass as slightly mixed race or other nationalities who may have the right look. I’m allocating slots for Wed afternoon in the Factory now. Full details below:

We are scouting for a child to act in our short drama film Mikayla about a deadly assassin android made in the form of a mixed race Chinese-caucasian girl. This film is written and will be directed by Ciarán Foy, the acclaimed Irish director of new feature film Citadel and the award-winning short The Faeries of Blackheath Woods. The film is part of the Signatures short film scheme run by the Irish Film Board.

We are looking for an 11-12-year-old girl with the confidence and natural charisma to perform on film. As the adult central character Mikayla is played by a UK actress who is a quarter Chinese, we are looking for girls who are partially Chinese or Irish girls who could pass as mixed race to play the younger version of Mikayla. There is no acting experience required.

Any parent who wants to contact me can do so by e-mailing or calling me to arrange an appointment in advance of our open day this Wednesday April 18th 2pm-6pm at the Factory, 35A Barrow Street, Dublin 4 (Just off Pearse street beyond Grand Canal Quay; map at www.thefactory.ie).

Please contact Nick McGuinley, casting Director by email  nick@nickmcginley.com or Tel.: +353 86 8239035

Synopsis:

We Know you Love Football, is a short humorous advertisement starring a strong affable male lead playing the part of the ultimate football fanatic.

Character BIOS

[Main Character] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 25-30]

Our main character is a guy in his mid to late twenties. He’s not the coolest, he’s not the trendiest but he is most definitely a great guy. He is a person that everybody likes, he has lots of friends and they all love him. He is jolly, caring and a good friend. He is a ‘legend’.

Our guy loves football with a passion (maybe a little too much!) and this is what drives his life. Fantasy football leagues, all the transfer news, the latest jersey, he has it all. He adores watching football and he adores supporting Ireland above all else.
